Day 1: Flight to Ho Chi MinhOvernight on board.
Day 2: Ho Chi MinhUpon arrival at Ho Chi Minh airport, meet and transfer to the hotel. Free for the rest of the day.
Day 3: Chi Minh - Tunnels of Cu Chi - Ho Chi MinhIn the morning , transfer overland to visit the Cu Chi tunnels. In the afternoon we take a guided tour of the most emblematic spots in the city of Saigon, many of them the result of French colonization.
Day 4: Ho Chi Minh-Cai Lay-Can Tho, Mekong Delta-Ho Chi MinhAfter a journey of 1.5 hours from Saigon we reach Ben Tre one of the southern rural provinces in the Mekong river delta. We enjoy the lush rice fields and fruit farms. Arrival at the pier, where we start an excursion in a motor boat along the river. We observe the landscape of the Delta, the houses on stilts and the fish farms on the way. Upon arrival to Isla Tortuga, we visit a local house, meet the owners, taste the newly harvested fruit and coconut milk to get to know more about the daily life of the farmers. We enjoyed a pleasant walk through the town observing tropical gardens along the way, we visited a small family business of making coconut candies. We continue the trip in a sampan paddled by a rower while we admire the labyrinth of canals. After saying goodbye to him, we took a walk through the shaded areas of the coconut gardens before arriving at a resting place to enjoy a cup of tea with honey and music from the area, recently declared a World Heritage Site. Lunch is served at My Tho to try some delicate local specialties. After lunch we return to Ho Chi Minh City. Transfer to the hotel and free afternoon rest.
Day 5: Ho Chi Minh - Danang-Hoi AnAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport to flight to Danang. Upon arrival at the airport, transfer to the hotel at Hoi An. Rest of the day free.
Day 6: Hoi AnBetween the 17th and 19th centuries, Hoi An was a thriving commercial port. Today, this city, a World Heritage Site, has well-preserved buildings, pedestrian streets and a unique kitchen, which makes visitors get an idea of its illustrious past. The narrow streets are ideal to enjoy a good walk. There is much to visit, including the houses of the merchants, with Chinese influences, the Japanese and Vietnamese architecture, 400 years old. The Covered Bridge, the Assembly Hall of the Chaozhou Chinese Congregation and the colorful market. Guided tour of the city and free afternoon.
Day 7: Hoi An - HanoiAfter breakfast, transfer to the airport to flight to Hanoi. Upon arrival, we do a guided city tour. With its ocher-colored colonial buildings and boulevards flanked by plants and lakes, Hanoi is a charming city. We start with the Sword Lake and the Ngoc Son temple inside the lake. Then, the House of Ho Chi Minh. The simple house in which Ho Chi Minh lived and worked is made of wood and enjoys a quiet environment, overlooking a lotus pond. Ho Chi Minh's belongings are displayed and you can climb up the stairs of your house to see your bedroom. A short distance from the mausoleum is the One Pillar pagoda, made in the shape of a lotus and resting on a single pillar that emerges from the water. Then you can go to the Temple of Literature, the first university for the children of the mandarins. At night we attended the water puppet theater show; unique art form of North Vietnam that depicts scenes from everyday life.
Day 8: Hanoi - Bahia de HalongAfter breakfast, transfer overland during 3.5h to arrive to Halong Bay with a quick stop at Dai Viet Center. We embark on the reed upon arrival. After a relaxing break, we enjoy a lunch based on fresh seafood while the rush sails through the area, a Unesco World Heritage Site, passing by the sculpted stone islands that emerge from the turquoise waters. We explore the Sung Sot cave where stalactites hang from the ceiling creating numerous shapes and figures. We relaxed on the beach before returning to the ship for dinner.
Day 9: Halong - HanoiWe sailed on a small bamboo boat to explore the Luon cave, where the cliffs are reflected in clear water and time seems to have stopped. We returned to the junk and enjoyed the brunch on board during the cruise back to the dock, then transfer back to Hanoi with a light snack on the way.
Day 10: Departure dayFree day until to transfer to airport to take the flight back.
Day 11: ArrivalArrival at the home city.
Vietnam seduces. Not only for the beauty of its lanscapes, its artistic heritage and its vibrant cities; Vietnam has keept the essence of its culture alive by integrating the contribution of colonitzation into it, but without succumbing to it.
