Day 1: Flight to YangoOvernight on board.
Day 2: YangonYangon was declared the capital of Myanmar at the end of the 19th century by the English. They renamed the city as Rangoon, however, it has been restored to its original name in Burmese - Yangon since 1989 when the country was also renamed Myanmar. Upon arrival, assistance at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Free afternoon.
Day 3: Yangon - BaganTransfer to the airport to fly to the ancient city of Bagan, which owns more than 3,000 temples. Upon arrival, we visit the Dhammayangyi Pagoda, the largest temple in Bagan. Then, we relaxed in a lacquerware factory before continuing the journey in Shwezigon Pagoda, one of the four most important buildings in Bagan, which was used as a center of reflection and prayer. At the end of the trip, we enjoyed the sunset sailing down the Ayayarwaddy River. Transfer to the hotel.
Day 4: Bagan - Mount Popa - Salay - BaganRising 1,518 meters from the plains around Bagan, Mount Popa is considered the sacred house of spirits. We visited a village of palm trees on the way to find out how sugar cane is produced. Then we visit Taung Kalat, the temple located above as a stopper on the volcano and has a meaning in the history and religion of Myanmar. We continue to the colorful religious center of Salay, home to numerous monasteries and colonial buildings. We visited Yoke-Sone-Kyaung, a cultural heritage. Located on the east bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River, the monastery is famous for its spectacular wood carvings. At the last minute we return to Bagan.
Day 5: Bagan - MandalayTransfer to the airport to fly to Mandalay, the last capital of the Burmese Kingdom. Upon arrival, we will travel by car to Amarapura, the capital of the 18th century where the largest monastery in the country, Maha Ghandayon, is located. We continue to the magnificent teak bridge of U Bein. We cross the Ayeyarwaddy River and head to the picturesque Sagaing Hill, considered a religious center in Myanmar and home to more than 3,000 monks and 100 meditation centers. We ended the day with a visit to the other ancient capital, Ava, capital of Myanmar before Amarapura.
Day 6: Mandalay - The great bell of Minguin - MandalayMingun houses the largest bell in the world weighing more than 87 tons. Visit the place of the bell and observe its massive size and think about how it was moved here many years ago. Then, continue to the unfinished Mingun Mantara Pagoda that was built at the end of the 18th century by King Bodawpaya. A few years later, a strong earthquake caused the collapse of the upper part of the pagoda. As it is a recently occurred earthquake, we can only visit it from outside and we can no longer climb to the top. Nevertheless, it is still an impressive site. The rest of the day free to explore the city.
Day 7: Mandalay - HehoTransfer to the airport to fly to Heho. Upon arrival, we traveled by car to Inle Lake. Inle Lake is the second largest lake in Myanmar, with 70 square kilometers of extension. Located at 880 meters above sea level, this lake is also the highest in the country, and also enjoys a cool and mild climate and a vast flora and fauna. It has an estimated population of 70,000 villagers living in more than 200 villages around the lake.
Day 8: Inle LakeThe day's visits begin by walking along the lake, observing the beautiful surroundings as we head to the market, the floating gardens. And the Indein pagoda complex. We walk along the path from the village of Pa O tribe, to the monastery and to the impressive ruins of hundreds of pagodas, some of them still hidden under the vegetation. The area of the main stupa on the top of the hill offers wonderful views of the surroundings and the valley.
Day 9: Hecho - YangonTransfer to the airport for the flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, we begin the visit to the city: Golden Pagoda or Shwedagon, whose roof dominates the profile of the city, I call Kandawgyi and walk around, south area of the city and Sule Pagoda, which a legend says that its foundations date back more than 2,500 years. We ended the day by visiting the Chaukhtatkyi temple, with the famous Buddha statue of more than 70 meters.
Day 10: Yangon - airportAfter breakfast, transfer to airport to flight back.
Day 11: ArrivalArrival at the home city.
The former kingdom of Burma, has been one of the last countries is Southeast Asia to open its borders to foreigners. This fact meant that current Myanmar is still an unexploited jewel of pagodas and temples.
